Hello everybody!

I try to use IHC Win 1.32 with my controller. After program started it shows message "..firmware must be updated". OK. Despite this I can read(get) the project as you can see on the pictures! But I can't save(send) project because command is disabled and there is message "No connection.." bottom main window. When I try to update the firmware, a message appears "Downloading of chosen Firmware file to IHC Controller prohibited! Maybe I should use older version of program or firmware downloader. Or maybe previous specialist restricted write access somehow. I don't know.

What's wrong? Can you help me please.

@comboprogerVisual 1 is so old that I haven't used it in more than 15 years, and I haven't seen that error either. My best guess is that if you are using windos 10 or 11, it might be a windows filesystem security issue. Try run the firmware updater with admin rights or try copy the new firmware to a different folder.

Alternatively you can replace your Visual 1 controller with a Visual 2 or 3 controller. All the I/O modules can be reused. It's just the controller that needs to be replaced, although I would recommend to replace the power supply too if it's as old as the controller. Old power supplies have a tendency to fail when you start turning them on/off or have sudden changed in the load.

Lars1, Thank you for your answer. I understand this stuff is outdated but we have what we have. Well, I wanna try Win 1.2 version but I couldn't find it. Do you happen to have this software? Can you share me?

I don't have the Visual 1 software, but it might be available in the download section on this board. Alternatively it can be downloaded from this site. https://www.lk.dk/mitlk/download-ihc-software/ihc-controller-visual-1/ It requires a login, but anyone can create a login. Unfortunately I think it's only available in Danish.

Visual 1 and 2 is outdated and not supported anymore, but Visual 3 is still supported, although you can discuss whether it's outdated. Latest software is from December 21. The firmware is even older. A Visual 3 controller costs about 6-7K DKK and as I wrote. It's the only piece you need to replace to get your installation back on the supported track.

I got you Lars1! I realize the only right way is upgrade to 3rd version. I've fixed this controller by replacing broken inductance in lm2585t circuit. 5v on output was restored. Before it didn't works of course. After fixing controller become like new : ) but  isn't able to update. But I think this problem was long time ago. Look at the screenshot. I guess this is the reason for the failure during the update.

Sounds like there are more than one problem with the controller or maybe the power supply is unstable. This is not uncommon with old power supplies.

Do you use the right seriel cable? Pin 2 to pin 2, pin 3 to pin 3?

Gnd on pin 1 to pin 1.

Is it the same error without connection to the controller when you try to upload firmware?

Do firrmware loader connect?

Try in a terminal app in Windows and short pin 2 & 3 and write some signs in terminal and you will recive them instant.

Your seriel com chip can be defective on the controller.

I have used self made female-female cable. I referred to this from some manual:

Forbindelseskablet er monteret med et 9-polet Sub-D stik i begge ender.

...and it works perfectly. I can get project from controller, but I can't send project to controller because as you can see on the screenshot firmware must be updated.

You questioned: "Do firrmware loader connect?" Yes, as you can see on 1st and 3rd pictures of my 1st post there's message Connection established..on the green background bottom of main firmware loader window. I can run any step excluding 4th

When i discovered mentioned error I did full straight cable 1-1...9-9 and result was the same.

I tried different options on WinXP and Win7. For example, I used my com cable , also I used usb-com(male) cable connected with my com cable. The results was identical.

But you say about Gnd to pin1. I should connect pin1 to connector housing both side or pin1 and pin5 both side? Maybe it would have effect.

Speaking about a single error in the log it appears when I short pins of supercapacitor inside controller for a 1 second. Of course I shutted power supply down before this trick. You can see it in the picture. It's green.

And yes I will check my cable in terminal.

Since you can download the program and the firmware loader can connect and read the firmware level etc. I doubt it's a cable issue. It sounds more like a controller issue. Most likely a faulty memory circuit or unstable/noisy power supply.

Your cable is ok, you don't need gnd.

I dont have any ideas. 

But i will try to get another used controller and try the project file on that.

Connecting GND to the housing should only be done if you are using a shielded cable and you are sure that the housing isn't connected to GND inside the devices (standard). If this is the case you should connect GND to the housing in one end of the cable, and only one end.
